Chapter Twenty-Nine
CHEENA sighed in frustration as she looked at the gold digital clock on her glass and gold-trimmed nightstand. The time read 2am. Once again she was in bed wide awake when she ought to be sleep.
Isabella and Axel were sound asleep in their rooms. Yet sleep wouldn’t come near Cheena… again. It wouldn’t even wave to her from across the galaxy.
She didn’t need a doctor to tell her what the problem was. Nor did she need a pill to fix it. She knew that her insomnia was caused by a combination of guilty conscience and raging hormones. Both were crying out for Dillon…again.
Cheena was going to relieve her conscience next weekend by finally telling him about their son. There was nothing she could do about her hormones and relentless desire for him. Dillon was already taken.
Cheena sighed longingly. Although being an active part of Morgan’s life during his final days proved beneficial in a lot of ways, it cost her big time romantically and sexually.
Being married to Morgan was like living with a roommate. They never slept in the same bedroom during their entire marriage, not even on their honeymoon. They shared lots of warm hugs, but their kisses were limited to the forehead and cheek areas, even after her surgery. As a result, Cheena hadn’t had any kind of sexual activity since that last night with Dillon.
Dillon. She moaned, remembering their last night together with fondness. The man had kissed and touched her old lips as if they were just as precious as any other part of her body. That same body missed him so much right now, but her heart missed him most.
Cheena wouldn’t allow herself to reflect on that night during her marriage since it only brought torment. It also made her feel as if she was cheating on Morgan in her mind.
Now…now things were different. Now she could think about Dillon all she wanted to…at least until she remembered that he had a woman.
Happy or not, he’s still spoken for, Cheena thought, refusing to continue to lust over somebody else’s man. She definitely was not going to pursue Dillon while he was in a committed relationship. She was no homewrecker.
Cold shower here I come. Cheena rose from the bed and headed for the adjoining bathroom.
When her hormones were finally under control again, Cheena exited the shower, dried off, and put on a pink and white polka dotted short sleep-set. Just as she was finally starting to nod off, the doorbell rang.
“Awww…man!” Cheena grumbled. “Who can it be at this hour?” She forced her body out of bed yet again.
Before she left her bedroom, she put on a robe and retrieved the small revolver that Morgan bought for her and made her learn how to use before he died. The doorbell rang a second time as she pocketed the .22.
Thankfully the doorbell function was turned off in the baby’s room. Otherwise Axel would not be a happy camper right about now. When Cheena’s child was unhappy, so was she and vice-versa.
